Mont Ventoux is visible from many parts of Provence, due to its white color, due to the calcareous composition of the mountain, and due to its enormous height, of almost 2000 meters. In fact, it is known as the Giant of Provence; and also as Mount Bald, because much of its surface is bare. The fact that it is quite isolated makes the temperatures very changeable, going from extreme heat to sub-zero temperatures at its top. It is also characterized by the Mistral wind, very cold, which strikes it almost constantly, hence the name of Mont Ventoux, a windy mountain.
